In more than 174 years, the Hotel & Bildungszentrum Matt has set unmistakable historical milestones. From the beginning to the present day, learn more about the most significant moments in fast motion.
1851 - Niklaus Fuchs discovered the healing benefits of the mountain air in Schwarzenberg, and the first climatic health resort in Central Switzerland was not long in coming. With the purchase of the Matthof, tourism took hold in Schwarzenberg. Success came quickly and the expansion of the old farmhouse to provide more tourist beds was essential.
1861 - the brothers Josef and Johann Georg Stofer von Schwarmoos took over the highly regarded Kurpension Matt. Growing demand prompted the Stofer brothers to expand the guesthouse once again. Air cures in Schwarzenberg are the spirit of the times.
1896 - Andreas Käslin from Emmetten steered the Pension Matt into the Hotel and Kurhaus Matt era. His knowledge of French cuisine from numerous stays abroad in Cannes and Nice led the Hotel Kurhaus Matt to become an epicurean great throughout Switzerland.
1926 - Hermann Käslin took over his father's life's work in the second generation. Under his leadership, the Hotel and Kurhaus Matt celebrated special moments. The founding of the Schwarzenberg Tourist Association in 1946 can be traced back to him.
1960 - the great upheaval began and with the takeover of the Women's and Mothers' Communities Switzerland FMG (today's Swiss Catholic Women's Federation), the first forms and structures of the largest educational center in Switzerland were created under the name "House of Mothers". The right to education for women reflected the revolutionary spirit of the time internationally, and the education center flourished. A new building according to the given guidelines was unavoidable. Time moved fast and the education center also adapted dynamically to the environment, so the education system was eagerly adapted to the trend of society, economy and politics.
